Sojourn:
Musings on Time and Place in Texas

An ongoing photographic project exploring declining, rural communities in Texas.

These photographs undoubtedly evoke a sense of nostalgia, but more than a yearning for that which no longer is, we wish to acknowledge what once was. We have a curiosity for other times and other experiences.

Our images seek out subtle, close-in things that most people miss --- small visual secrets that are all around us. Yet, behind these photographs composed of shape and form, there is always the reality from which they derived. The past is intrinsically linked with these places and hence these photographs. Perhaps the passage of time on bulildings results in intriguing subject matter for photogaphs, but undoubtedly part of the fascination is knowing that at one time these buildings held within their walls the dreams and hopes of people who have come and gone. Their histories and stories are never far from the surface.

In capturing this ephemeral metamorphosis it is as though we are photographing mirrors -- mirrors which reflect back our own temporal lives.
